Brian & Nancy Cassady
They jump in when they’re needed
The moment Brian Cassady saw an ambulance coming down his street he was concerned about his neighbors.
Within moments, he and his wife, Nancy, were at the doorstep of Scott and Hollie Harper’s Iowa City home willing to do whatever they could to help out.
Instead of waiting for directions, they immediately volunteered to take care of the Harper’s two daughters, ages 6 and 8, while the Harpers rushed to the hospital with their 2-year-old son, who had fallen off of a banister in the house.
The Cassadys then took care of the girls for two days, while the Harpers attended to their son at the hospital.
“They drove the girls to school, helped them with their homework, took care of our house and dog, brought us food to the hospital and welcomed us home with dinner two days later,” Hollie Harper said.
“They continue to be there whenever we need them, they are our family, and we are so very thankful to have been blessed with having them in our lives.”
The Cassadys say they only did what the Harpers would have done for them if the situation were reversed.
“They are just as good to us,” Brian Cassady said.
His wife agreed.
“We can count on each other,” she said. “Their kids are just like ours.”
In fact, everyone in the families are close friends, Brian Cassady said.
It’s not uncommon for the families to spend time together two or three times as week.
“Both of our houses have an open door policy to just come on in,” he said.
