Best Coffee

Winner: The Java House.

Locally owned and operated, the Java House once again was voted the best place for locals to find their favorite coffee brews. Not even the mighty Starbucks could topple this place in its variety of drinks and unique atmosphere.

“We try really hard at everything we do,” owner Tara Cronbaugh said.

Some of the favorites at the Java House, besides the coffee, are frappes and desserts.
“We have a continually growing line of frappes. Some of the newest ones are the decadent banana and the peanut butter frappe,” said Paul Cork, manager of the downtown store.

Each day, the Java House offers nine kinds of fresh brewed coffee.

Besides great desserts, excellent customer service, and, oh yeah — the coffee, the Java House now allows patrons to plug into the Internet for free.

The Java House will celebrate its 10th anniversary this fall.

“Ten years ago I really didn’t know it was going to go this far,” Cronbaugh said.

The Java House has four locations: 211 ½ E. Washington St., 15 S. Dubuque St., 713 Mormon Trek Blvd., and its newest location at 1575 First Ave. Cronbaugh has plans to open another location in the near future.

Runners-up: Starbucks, Terrapin.

Last year’s winner: The Java House.
