M.U.S.E. CD-release Party
3rd Street LIVE!, 1204 Third St. SE, Cedar Rapids
Saturday, 8 p.m. doors ($15 advance/$20 door)

"M.U.S.E." is Musicians United to Save the Englert. The CD is a wonderful compilation of 15 Eastern Iowa musicians, with proceeds going to the Englert fund. The eminent Mr. Greg Brown, The Mayflies of Johnson Co. and The Kelly Pardekooper Band will perform for the party, and the disc (regularly $15) will be on sale at this show only for a mere $10. Advance tickets are available in Iowa City at The Englert, The Fun Zone, Prairie Lights, Artisans Gallery and Sal's.

sam knutson & SHAME TRAIN
George's Buffet, 312 E. Market St.
Tuesday, 10 p.m. (no cover)

Even in an area crowded with sterling singer/songwriters, Sam Knutson stands apart with a distinctive delivery and a unique world view. Knutson & Co.'s "Shame Train And The Devil's Square Quilt" is one of the best discs to come out in the state this year, and the son of a gun is already back in the studio, baking up a fresh batch. Seating is limited in this cozy neighborhood tavern, so get there early and stake out a spot.
